Wyze, a startup that has been making routers for a few years now, has announced two new routers: the Wyze 6 and Wyze 6E. The Wyze 6 is a basic router that costs $60, while the Wyze 6E is a more expensive option that costs $100. The Wyze 6 and 6E are both mesh routers. Mesh routers are different from traditional routers because they use wireless mesh networking to connect multiple devices together. This allows you to have more devices connected to the internet at once without having to run cables all over your house. Mesh networking is great because it allows you to connect devices in places where traditional networks don’t work well or where there are too many cables running around. For example, if you live in an apartment building with no Wi-Fi coverage, you can use a mesh network to connect your laptop to the internet. The Wyze 6 and 6E both have some great features for people who want a basic router or who want to use mesh networking. The Wyze 6 has four Gigabit ports and can support up to eight devices, while the Wyze 6E has six Gigabit ports and can support up to 16 devices. Both routers also have two USB ports so you can share files or printers with other people in your home or office. ..

Wyze has announced two new Wi-Fi mesh systems, the first routers sold by Wyze. Both are mesh systems, so they can expand network coverage by placing additional stations around your home. Wyze will sell them in packs of one or two units, and the company says you can have up to ten nodes on a single network — mixing and matching the two systems won’t work, though.

First is the Wyze Mesh Router, which will cost $93.99 for one unit, or $173.99 for two units, not including shipping costs on Wyze’s online store. It’s a simple dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router, with support for both 2.4 and 5 GHz channels. Wyze is claiming 1500 square feet of coverage on each station, and you can optionally use a wired Ethernet backhaul for improved performance. Each station also has at least one Ethernet port for connecting a wired device, which is not available on regular Eero stations or Google Wifi/Nest Wifi.

There’s also the Wyze Mesh Router Pro, which supports the newer Wi-Fi 6E standard, including the 6 GHz band. There aren’t many devices yet that can even take advantage of Wi-Fi 6E — Apple has exactly one product that supports it, for example — so for the moment that’s mostly just for futureproofing. It also has slightly more range than the normal Wyze Mesh Router, at 2,000 sq. ft. instead of 1,500. The Pro model costs $173.99 for a 1-pack or $273.99 for a 2-pack.

The routers look impressive on paper, and there aren’t many options for Wi-Fi 6E routers, so any competition is welcome. However, Wyze has never sold a router before now. Waiting for independent reviews is probably the best move before making a purchase decision, especially since there’s not much information about the software experience (besides that everything is handled in the Wyze app).
